노태웅의 작품세계
노태웅의 그림을 처음 대할때 자연적인 평범한 대상을 무난하게 묘사한 것 같은 느낌을 받는다. 그의 그림에서는 패기라든가 고민과 같은 긴장미 가 없는, 그의 젊은 나이답지 않게 노숙해 보인다. 그러나 이 작품들을 걸음을 멈추고 가까이 대할 때 앞에서 말한 인상들 은 사라지고 그 엄숙한 밀도에 숙연해진다.
이사람이 다루는 거리나 마을과 같은 자연대상들은 시끄럽게 움직이는 오늘날의 표면적인 현실이 아니라 그 뒤에서 숨쉬고 있는 엄숙한 현실이 다 그 점들은 어쩌면 주거밀집지대의 부감도와 같은 구도로서 이루어진 지붕이나 골목이며 인간의 그림자조차 보이지 않는 침묵의 공간이다.
이 허무주의적인 정적속에서 기계주의의 폭력을 두려워하는 인간들의 항의와 향수가 함께 자리하고 있는 정경이다.
화면의 두툼한 Páte는 텁텁한 중후감을 주지않고 오히려 수정체의 결 정처럼 투명하고 세련된 시적(詩的)감각을 염출시키고 있다. 노태웅의 화가로서의 비밀은 여기에 있는 것이다.
한사람의 독립된 작가가 되려면 그 나름대로의 Manner를 쌓아 올리는 일이며 왕왕 이 Manner는 Action적인 기발한 행위에서 찾고 있는 것이 오늘날의 사례이지만 그는 겉으로는 평범하게 보이는 화면 처리에서 그것 을 성취하고 있다.
그것은 끈기와 집념에서 찾아낸 효과이며 안으로 숨을 들이키면서 숨소 리를 밖으로 들어내지 않도록 노력한 나머지 나타난 작품의 밀도이다. 그 것은 이사람의 인품에서도 볼수가 있는 성질이다.

On the Works of Rho, Tae-woong
When we are faced to Rho's paintings, we receive an impression that he represents ordinary natural objects moderately. His paintings seem mature in comparison with his age and are devoid of tension such as aspiration or agony.
And yet we feel austerity from his works forgetting what we mentioned above when we closely look at them.
Subjects that he deals with, such as streets and villages, are not the superficial reality of contemporary life which moves around loudly but the reality that exists underneath. His painting represents a bird's eye view of crowded housing area, and dipicts a silent space in which nobody appears.
At the same time, in a certain mood of nihilistic nothingness, his painting suggests both argue and nostalgia of ordinary people who are afraid of the violence of maching age.

In order to become an independent artist, one must acquire his own manner. Most of contemporary artists are trying to get their manner through novel conducts such as gestural painting, but Rho accomplishes it with canvases which look quite ordinary.
His manner is the product of the tenacity and concentration, and it shows us a density of work which is a result of effort to inhale but without sound. This attitude can also be detected in his personality.
Art is a product of faithful human endeavor, and the only faithful man can reach to that state. This is what we find in Rho's paintings.
